About Me

Me in three words: Independent - Outgoing - Witty

The Good Stuff:

I almost always speak my mind and it usually gets me in trouble.

I think that people are amazing in both good and bad ways - they amaze me every day.

I like to drink Absolut and seltzer with lots of limes and Patron is my shot of choice.

I like to think that I never err on the safe side [for better or worse].

I live in extremes. There is little gray area in my life.

My Writing:

I don't want to write basic inverted pyramid style stories. I have no desire to work at a daily newspaper. My plan is to work as hard as I can over the next few years making a name for myself so that in about a decade or so I can move into a house with an awesome view (woods or beach..something like that) and write freelance. I want to be a D-List celebrity - someone who's name is familiar but without the pap-a-ra-zoo.

I'd like to work in Travel Journalism for a few years and eventually become a regular contributor to a publication like The New Yorker. Although, after the a grueling senior project that involved web design , I'm especially fond of online work.

Currently I am living in upstate NY with a fellow J Student, working at a full-time internship at a public radio station. I have no radio experience, but that is why I'm here. I'm planning on living in this great upstate city for a year or two and making enough money to pull myself out of debt and save to land a sweet Manhattan apartment. Although, lately I've been looking at west coast jobs, so who knows what will happen.

What is You?

Who are we?
We are the J2 Crew. Basically, we are four gals who took Journalism II together along with a slew of other Journalism classes at SUNY New Paltz. All four of us were Journalism majors and now, we're all trying to find our way down four completely different paths.

Why are we blogging?
That's like asking to be or not to be. Well, maybe not. But there is really a long and a short answer. After graduating, we're all over the place. So this blog, in a simplistic form, is a way for us to keep tabs on each other while venting to people who actually understand the strife that the world of media jobs can cause.
The longer version is..well..we're journalism students at heart, but our paths are leading in all different directions. We have no idea what we are doing and we love advice and other information from people in our field. We're hoping that this blog will help us realize what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong and maybe it'll help some other young professionals who are wavering on their path of journalism success.
